The YSU Engineering Department and EAG collaborated on a Community-Engaged Educational Ecosystem Model (C-EEEM) Internship Program.
This program was piloted by Notre Dame and their Center for Civic Innovation, and is funded by a National Science Foundation grant. A focus of the internship is bringing together students across disciplines to solve community issues using classroom.
2024 was the CITY program’s largest year yet with 13 interns!
Interns enjoyed weekly site visits across Youngstown, including:
- Mill Creek Park
- Youngstown Business Incubator
- Westside Bowl
- East and Chaney High Schools
- Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation
- DOPE Cider House and Winery, Penguin City Brewing Company, and Youngstown Flea
- Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor
These site visits, along with several team lunches at local restaurants help students better understand the community and how their projects might contribute to tangible success.
